चीन कब्ज़ा गर्ने भनेको

मधेसले चीन कब्ज़ा गर्ने भनेको बुद्ध मधेसी, चीन मा बुद्धिस्ट को संख्या एक बिलियन पुर्याउने भनेको। गोराले नेपालमा क्रिस्चियन धर्म प्रचार गर्न हुने, मधेसीले चीन मा बुद्ध को धर्म प्रचार गर्न किन नहुने? मधेसले चीन कब्ज़ा गर्ने भनेको बन्दुक को लड़ाई भनेको होइन। को जान्छ चिनिया सँग लड़ाई गर्न? मधेसले त्यसरी चीन कब्ज़ा गर्दा त्यति बेला चीन र मधेस बीच को सम्बन्ध ले आकाश छुने हुन्छ। बुद्ध को सन्देश र ज्ञान मा त्यस किसिमको ताकत छ। पृथ्वी नारायण र बुद्ध बीच फरक छ। अनि त्यसरी चीन कब्ज़ा गरे पछि जनकपुर पटना कोलकाता ढाका मले कुन्मिंग बुलेट ट्रेन बनाउने। इंडस्ट्रियल कॉरिडोर। मधेसमा झापा देखि कंचनपुर बुलेट ट्रेन। दुई घंटा को बाटो। जनकपुर मा स्पेशल इकनोमिक जोन। झापा मा भारत ले मान्दैन। त्यो कुखुराको घाँटी जस्तो भारतको भूभाग। झापा देखि कंचनपुर बुलेट ट्रेन बनाउन एक मधेस दो प्रदेस चाहिएको। बुलेट ट्रैन छ भने झापा मा बसी बसी बाहुन हरु दैनिक जागीर खान जनकपुर आउन पाउने हुन्छ। दिउँसो खाजा जनकपुर मा खाने गरी।

भएको छ २१ औं शताब्दी मा आंदोलन। मागिएको छ २० औं शताब्दी मा पाइसकेको हुनुपर्ने अधिकार। तर पिछला ५०० साल युरोप को, अर्को ५०० साल भारत को --- त्यसको शंखघोष मधेसमा हुने भएकोले यो २२ औं शताब्दीको आंदोलन हो।  यो मधेसको होइन भारतको आफ्नो आंदोलन हो। चीन क्वाप्प खानुपर्ने मधेसले जाबो पहाडसँग अलग किन हुने? म साम्राज्यवादी को स्वराजी सँग फरक मत त्यो हो। पहाड़ जाबो के हो र? चीन मा एक बिलियन बुद्धिस्ट खोजेको मान्छे म।मधेसी काठमाण्डु को बाटो चीन पुग्नु पर्छ।

सनातनी सोंच, सनातनी धर्म, सनातनी मानसिकता, सनातनी संकीर्णता

मान्छे लाई चाहिने जति ज्ञान सप्पै वेद पुराण उपनिषद् मा छ। त्यसमा थप्नु पर्ने केही पनि छैन। त्यो हो सनातनी सोंच, सनातनी धर्म, सनातनी मानसिकता, सनातनी संकीर्णता। त्यो सोंच कोही एक जनाले आफ्नो घर भित्र पुजा कोठा भित्र लागु गर्दा समस्या पर्दैन।  

तर सोंच लाई राज्य (state) मार्फ़त एउटा सिंगो देश माथि थोपर्ने प्रयासले त्यस देश लाई बंधक तुल्याउँछ र प्रगति का मार्ग जति सबै अवरुद्ध गर्ने हुन्छ। 

मान्छे लाई चाहिने जति ज्ञान सप्पै वेद पुराण उपनिषद् मा छ। त्यसमा थप्नु पर्ने केही पनि छैन। सनातनी ले त्यो भन्छ। अनि कोही बुद्ध ले नया ज्ञान भन्यो भने उसको शिष्य जति सबैलाई भौतिक रुपले नै सिध्याउनु पर्ने हुन्छ। सिध्याएको हो पनि।

रावण सनातनी। आफ्नो युगको नंबर एक सनातनी। 

गैलिलियो ले पृथ्वी गोलो छ भन्यो। कि पृथ्वी सुर्य को वरिपरि घुम्छ भन्यो। त्यस्तै के भन्यो। राज्य (state) आफ्नो पकड़मा राखेका रूढ़िवादी धार्मिक हरुले सातो लिए। जिंदगी बर्बाद गरे। पश्चिम देशमा भएको त्यो। भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप मा त्यो रोल अहिले सम्मै खेल्दै आएको सनातनी हो।

दलित भनेको रामभक्त हो। के छ हालत दलित को? राम लाई भगवान भन्नु समस्या हो सनातनी का लागि। रामले त रावण को वध गरेको। 

विज्ञानं र प्रविधि को यो समय, यो २१ औं शताब्दी। सनातनी stone age का मान्छे। भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप लाई सनातनी मुक्त क्षेत्र बनाउनु जरुरी छ। फेरि बुद्ध धर्म को प्रचार गर्नु जरुरी छ। 

बरु सनातनी हटाउ। धर्म निरपेक्षता मन परेन भने बुद्ध धर्म को देश भन।

China today said Nepal should not become a "boxing arena" between India and China vying for influence in the Himalayan nation even as it called on New Delhi to treat Kathmandu as an equal partner..... "A stable Nepal enjoying development fully serves the interests of both China and India. So in other words I would like to say that

Nepal is a great place for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and India, not a boxing arena for China and India," he said.

..... "China, India and Nepal are close neighbours connected by the same mountains and rivers. This makes three of us a natural community of shared interest. This is why China has proposed the development of a China-India-Nepal Economic Corridor. It is all about common development and prosperity. Ultimate goal is to form community of shared future of the three of us," he said. .....

Both Wang and Thapa avoided any references to the Madhesi agitation while praising the new Constitution which has led to a major internal political crisis in Nepal.

...... On India-Nepal relations, Thapa said "immediately after the promulgation of the constitution there has been some misunderstanding between Nepal and India. Because of the India imposed unofficial obstruction on transit and supply of fuel and other essential commodities," he said referring to the transport blockade that Nepal alleged had been imposed by India but which has been strongly refuted by New Delhi. ...... "That caused a severe impact on the Nepalese society. It also had a negative impact on our economic growth. But I am very happy to say at this point of time that things are moving and improving," said Thapa who is also Deputy Prime Minister....... Referring to his two visits to India recently, he said "it seems that we are now able to clear the air of mistrust and misunderstanding and slowly things are moving and coming back to normal"...... Thapa also said besides agreeing to open new border points, China is willing to consider Nepal's request for long term supply of petroleum products through Tibet at concessional rates due to high altitude transportation and taxation costs...... He thanked China for supplying 1,000 MT of petroleum products at the height of the Madhesi agitation. ....... Thapa said the treaty would enable Nepalese to access travel and goods from other countries through Chinese ports and a joint working group will identify the transit points. .....

Thapa also assured that Nepal will continue to crackdown on Tibetans crossing from Tibet to Dharmasala to meet Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama....... "We have consistently followed the one-China policy. I would like to reiterate once again that Nepal will not allow any activities that infringe on China's sensitivities on Tibet," he said.

....... The Indian media at the event was not given an opportunity to ask questions..... "Similarly with China we have so many common areas socially, culturally also we are bound together.

The peace harmony, compassion, philosophy propounded by Lord Buddha has alway remained as a cementing factor in our relations.

..... "For Nepal there is no need to play each other. We have our own type of relations with India. Similarly we have special relations with China. So we are very happy with that and will continue in future with strengthening relations with both the countries.

That is the density that we have to live with," Thapa said.

मधेस के दलितों के लिए अम्बेडकर का रास्ता

मधेस के दलितों के लिए अम्बेडकर का रास्ता ही सबसे अच्छा रास्ता है। हिन्दु धर्म के भितर रह के आप को न इस जन्म में न अगले जन्म में मुक्ति मिलने वाली है। जातपात ही जिनका धर्म हो, उस जातपात बिना का धर्म वो कल्पना भी नहीं कर सकते तो वो तो आपको सदा दास ही समझेंगे। पृथ्वी गोल है, ये कांसेप्ट ही जिसके दिमाग में ना हो।

The Indian Century Begins In Nepal

For the first time in my life I feel like the word Madhesi exists in Patna, Lucknow and Delhi, for the first time an Indian Prime Minister, an Indian Home Minister, an Indian Foreign Minister have taken personal interest in the Madhesi cause. This is supposed to be bad news?

The ruling elite in Kathmandu, the Khas, all of them came from India over the centuries, but now Indophobia is their number one organizing principle in Kathmandu. The Madhesi are native to Madhesh. The term Madhesi does not exist in Bihar or Uttar Pradesh. It is a term peculiar to Nepal. But the cultural affinity across the border is unmistakable and cross border marriages are the norm, the most famous obviously being the Ram Janaki marriage. There is an open border like exists nowhere else on the planet, but one hopes will exist everywhere perhaps in the 22nd Century, because it is so cutting edge.

All South Asian borders are unnatural, thanks to the British. You find the same people living on two sides of the border everywhere, be it the Pakistan India border, the India Bangladesh border, or the Nepal India border in Nepal's western hills. The Madhesis are not unique.

There is sheer pragmatism. Should the conflict go the militant way, maybe 10,000 Madhesis might pick up arms, but likely three million might flee to the south and swamp Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Would that be a welcome scenario for Delhi?

And there is the no small issue of doing what is right. All Madhesis are asking for is equality. Or are they supposed to give ground and go the way of the Rohingya?

This is also about India coming of age and going toe to toe with powers like China and the United States and projecting itself on the global stage.

I try to look at China with an open mind. China has lifted more people out of poverty than any power in history and I respect that. I want India and Africa also to lift large numbers of people out of poverty. America ploughed its surplus into Europe and built infrastructure there after World War II. China seems to want to plough its surplus into building infrastructure across Asia and in Africa. And that is a good thing. I can see why China might feel jittery about the South China Sea. You could practically choke the Chinese economy by obstructing that sea route through which it gets all its oil supplies. But the sea lanes have to be kept open and safe for commerce, not just for China, but also the smaller powers. Europe and America seem to do just fine in the Atlantic. India, China and Africa should be able to together handle the Indian Ocean. Indian origin minorities may not be put to harm by local powers in countries like Sri Lanka, Burma and now Nepal. China can not be seen to be taking sides against the Madhesi if it aspires to see an Asian Century. China is the next America, India is the next China, and Africa is the next India. For me it is not an ego issue. It is an issue of global poverty elimination. Poverty robs people of basic dignity. Poverty is offensive.

India is an eight trillion dollar economy, measured for Purchasing Power Parity. That is not a small economy. India's time is not in 20 years. India's time is now.

China is not a democracy. It can appear to speak in one voice. India, on the other hand, is a democracy. It is but natural that the opposition in India will seek to speak against Modi on every issue imaginable, including the Madhesi issue, and it does. It does not disturb me to see that. Democracy is what makes India great and appealing. I will not have it any other way. Those voices are but normal. But the counter arguments have to be made. If Madhesh were a separate country and Modi could run for Prime Minister, he would collect 90% of the votes in Madhesh right now. That is how right he has been for the Madhesis who are fighting for 20th century rights in the 21st century. This is still pre-1947 for the Madhesh. It is like the British never left.

Modi is but in his second year in office. Independent of the Madhesh issue I think he is poised to rule India for 20 years and turn it into a First World country. This is your Deng Xiaoping, India, this is your Lee Kuan Yew. During his first year in office he has put India on the global map. Indians should take pride that their Prime Minister is currently the most popular politician in the world. A 200 billion dollar expenditure on defense can not buy you something like that. There are some things money cannot buy. We live in the era of soft power. And Modi, by that account, has conquered the world. Victory is yoga going to every town on earth, and we are already halfway there.

As a last resort Modi has to be ready to do a Bangladesh on Madhesh. He pulled a Rajiv Gandhi in 2014 by getting the wide popular mandate. Maybe he will get to pull an Indira Gandhi on Madhesh. And if I am proven right and he does rule for 20 years, he will also have pulled a Nehru.

Call me an Indian Imperialist, but my vision does not clash with the basic premise that all human beings are equal. My imperialist thoughts are about deepening Indian democracy, not subjugating peoples. There are too many countries where minorities get meted out second class treatments for no reason other than that they are Indian. That can not stand.

I am an Indian Imperialist in that I live on a planet where the sun never sets on Indians. I have seen more of America than anyone who ever ran for President Of The United States. There is not one town anywhere in America where you will not find at least one Indian family. I think Indians deserve political equality no matter where they are, not to say right in India's backyard, and ultimately it is India’s responsibility to make that happen. India can and should become a 240 trillion dollar economy by 2050, all it would take is a sustained double digit growth rate, and I personally would like to play my small part through my tech entrepreneurship and digital activism. I envision a Madhesi rule in Kathmandu and an eventual Nepal India political economic union. I would like to see a casteless Hinduism created in India and taken across the globe. I want Buddhism taken to all parts of the world. After all, Buddha was born a Madhesi like me. Yoga should be taken to every town on earth. I want to see a total, peaceful spread of democracy, and I want to see India take the lead there.

Buddha Was Born In Lumbini

Buddha was born in Lumbini. At the time no country called Nepal existed. The country that we know as Nepal today did not exist for another 2,000 years after Buddha was born. So it can be argued Buddha was not born in Nepal. It can also be argued Gandhi was born in Britain, because at the time India that we know today was British territory.

King Janak back in the days ruled over a vast country that was larger than today’s Nepal: it spanned what would today be Eastern Terai in Nepal and much of Bihar. It was called Mithila. The cultural entity still exists. My father is Nepali, my mother was born and grew up Indian. But both are Maithils. To my two families the Nepal-India political border feels highly arbitrary. At some level we want Mithila back!

I am no Buddha, not even close, I am merely a Buddhist, “one small human being” in the words of my fellow Buddhist Richard Gere, but I was born in India. Buddha was born in Nepal, but he achieved enlightenment in India. I was born in India, and attended high school in Kathmandu.

I like to argue Buddha must have looked like me when he was born. Lumbini is in the Terai. Buddha was born a Teraiwasi. The Jesus that walked this earth looked like what an average Arab looks like today. He had brown skin. But he is depicted as this blue eyed blonde dude in popular media. That is not accurate but it is something to do with the fact that Christianity has gone on to flourish in the West, whereas Jesus country is mainly home to Judaism, and in a bigger way Islam.

Buddha gets depicted like he had Mongol features. He gets shown to have Kubla Khan eyes. That cannot have been true. Buddha was a Madhesi. Too bad there are hardly any Madhesis and Biharis who are Buddhist today. I might be a major exception to the rule. My family is still Hindu. And I like to celebrate all kinds of festivals. I am a big fan of the Holi in Richmond Hill, the top Holi celebration in North America. I visited a mosque for a month last year every evening during Ramadan. The picture that you see in my ad for my tech consulting firm in this newspaper is from a Christmas party a few years ago.

The various South Asian currencies are already tied to the Indian rupee. When the Indian rupee goes down in value, the Nepali rupee goes down in value. It would make sense for South Asia to attempt a free trade zone and a South Asian economic union to end up with a single currency. But Europe’s mistake was there was no accompanying political union. I don’t imagine a Kashmir that is with either India or Pakistan. I imagine a Kashmir that is in a closely integrated South Asia, and so it does not really matter if Kashmir is with India or Pakistan.

Buddha is a strong case to be made for diluting the Nepal India border to the max. There are more Nepali speakers in India than in Nepal. Preserve the culture, but when it comes to the economy, make decisions that are pro-growth, pro prosperity. The India Pakistan border is a sore point in South Asia. No prime minister level peace talks could achieve with the magic that full-fledged trade could bring about. A South Asia that stands united will be a South Asia that will compete globally. A disunited South Asia will stay preoccupied with its immediate neighborhood.

I have never gotten worked up about the whole Buddha was born in Nepal issue. Like the Indian embassy said in a press release a few weeks ago: “The fact that Buddha was born in Lumbini was established over 2,000 years ago.” During a class discussion I said with immense pride to my geography teacher in college that Mt. Everest was in Nepal. To that his retort was: “And what’s your contribution to that?” Made me think.

Buddha was born in Nepal. But what’s your contribution to that? Nepalis alive today will have to create a world class economy that they can claim credit for and express pride in. But that requires getting past the false nationalism as expressed in the non-issues like the whole Buddha was born in Nepal fiasco.

A front page article in this newspaper a few weeks back argued India was behind the idea of Nepal elections in November 2013 and April 2014. The truth is it is the political parties in Nepal that have engaged in this debate and tussle. But to see India working behind the scenes is pretty reflective of the knee jerk ways of the Nepali media. If South Asia is a solar system, India is the sun, and Nepal is like planet Earth, true. There is the obvious gravitational pull. That geopolitical reality cannot be wished away just like gravity cannot be wished away. Leading Nepali politicians making regular treks to Delhi to lobby the power centers in that power city is a bigger phenomenon than various elements of the Indian foreign establishment wanting to meddle in Nepal. But for the most part both India and China want Nepal to do what’s best for Nepal. And so Nepali leaders just have to take more responsibility for their actions and non actions than they do.

Buddha was born in Nepal. But what’s your contribution to that?
